Starting in 2001, a concerted effort began to sample praying mantis material from around the world in order to amass a broad scale sample of Mantodea diversity for molecular based phylogenetics. The resulting collection is approaching approximately 6,000 specimens representing all major lineages with both traditionally mounted and cryogenically preserved vouchers for long-term storage of DNA.
